These are the recievers I use now. The bottom is the Icom IC-R75 HF reciever, the middle unit is the Uniden BC785Digital trunking scanner, and the top is the Uniden BC350 VHF/UHF scanner. 73s! I hope you all had a great Christmas too!

Thanks! Yes it is my understanding from the other U.K members here that police and fire and the like are on some uber-secret freqs there?? Any idea where in the spectrum they operate? Or is it a matter of a heavy fine if you get caught with a radio? 73s.

I almost forgot to show the antennas!! The Diamond discone antenna at the left is for the scanners, while that 4-element VHF yagi is employed as my HF getter-and as I said before-it kicks SW assLOL!!! Renae-see I wasnt kidding when I told ya it's exactly like the one you contributed that I'm using as my avatar! Only difference is I have it vertically positioned to grab max radio waves. 73s all!

WE had the same scanner antenna...except in a major wind storm half the antenna blew away. yes that is just like the one in the avatar!

Here is the 1954 Hallicrafters SX-88 sitting waiting for me to get it running again. Jees I sure miss DXing on that beast! ...and here are the two old faithfuls that still work like new-the 1959 Zenith TransOceanic Royal 3000-1, and the 1974 Realistic Patrolman-9. When the SX-88 went down these were my main SW getters until I bought the R-75. That Zenith really works the bands!! The Patrolman is a contender too-its strong point being a quiet noise floor if you can believe that. SW listening is actually quite pleasant on that one!

Thanks Martin!! I have literally ONE place about 40 miles from here where I can physically go to switch out the tubes-he has a huge tube tester there. He gets the majority of tubes from Russia. Then apparently I have to re-cap it too. Renae I sure wish I lived out there so Dave could help get this thing running LOL! I wonder what he's got on the bench?!

Renae I sure wish I lived out there so Dave could help get this thing running LOL! I wonder what he's got on the bench?! He would help you that is for sure. He loves doing that and loves the challenge of getting something vintage to work. On the Bench as I type is National NC 300 Collins 32v-1 and some U.S. Army Receiver not sure what that one is is says "U.S. Army Radio Receiver R-45/AR R-7" He just finished with a Hallicrafters S 108 and a Heathkit Apache (the Heathkit he gave to a friend , was frustrating him beyond belief I don't think that one is operating yet ) I will have to venture down into the work shop and snap photos of them. here is one of his restorations. I am not sure what this one is , it is a bad photo used my cell phone camera.

I just got rid of an olde tube txmitter recently due to the fact that the electricity prices have gone through the roof here, its about the only reason I wish I lived abroad I have a little 2kw fan heater in the shack which actually was less efficiency than the xmitter for heating !!!! Plus the fact what did I need a 600w txmitter for anyways

YOWSER-now that is a monster!!! It looks government like! Is that a linear?! Anyway you and Dave ROCK for sure! That is some old transceiver, the top is the radio part itself the bottom is the power supply. I will have to take a close up either when the lighting is better or find our daughter's digital camera.

Oh yeah Dave's got the GOOD ones!! I love the Collins but that military unit would be hours of joy!! I bet it can pull a feather of a signal out of 100lbs of noise too!

He is re-capping the Collins first before he uses it. hasn't touched the military one yet. The Collins and Military and the Hallicrafters were free...just given to him!

That is the trippy thing about this hobby-the stuff we appreciate so much in radios other folks cannot even see! You either love 'em or hate em or just don't care about them! But that is how we get the mad deals like this right?!
