Hi Folks, I have to say i am disappointed with the propogation so far this year, considering it's supposed to be a new sunspot cycle i have seen very few. The bands have been rubbish so far, except for contesters using 1.5 Kw+. Anybody else found this to be so? Or is it just me?

I haven't been on much, but when I do tune around either static crashes or nothing.

I must admit you know I only have 4,6 and 10m atm, but I've heard russia on 10m after using DXSherlock to track but haven't caught ought on 6m yet. I presume this low area and a low mast don't help, hey maybe one day I will get a hf set that works

I too think it has been a bit rubbish but we are on the up now and there is plenty of time for propogation to get better over the next 5 or 6 years before it starts dipping again. Keeping fingers crossed and listening

It's out there, i've managed 26 dxcc in the last week on 20m, 17m, and 10m ...and one qso on 15m, and all 10w phone. 10m is open most days, out to 1000 miles or so. OK, so forget about VK/W/ZS and suchlike at the moment, but there's still plenty out there. The solar cycle is in limbo, nobody knows if 23 has quite finished or not but there's always something out there, even if you have to scratch around for it. Just today, 17m was great, JA's around, and even I worked A9, UA9, CT3, CN and more. Besides, if you don't have the bad times, how are you going to appreciate the good times cheers, Andy

You are quite right Andy in what you are saying... It's just a matter of keeping at it and checking all the bands available to you frequently. I also agree with your statement 'If you don't have the bad times, how are you going to appreciate the good times.... Excellent thinking there Zo

Just to prove the point, I worked VP8 on 17m this evening with 10w... I nearly fell off my chair when he came back with 'the bbc station, go ahead'. As you can imagine, this was a pretty big pile up and advertised all over the dx clusters... but fair do's, he worked a few European QRP stations, so obviously he had good ears. VP8 has definitely made my HRD/Google earth logbook plots look more impressive cheers, Andy

Excellent news Andy it's always good to hear when someone gets a special contact and you certainly sounded pretty chuffed with this one. On not so brilliant a scale but good enough for me for now... I had my first 10m contact the other day. It was the first time I had heard anyone on there and albeit a local station I was still chuffed. Well Done again Andy. 73's, Zo
