I've not taken my foundation yet...but ever eager, I'm wondering what are suitable projects for the intermediate practical? Any kits spring to mind? What did you construct? They can't all be crystal calibrators cheers, Andy

When me and Den took our 2E0 course we made a morse practice oscillator with speaker. There are other things that are acceptible from Receivers to Transmitters. You can make an ATU but that alone may be considered too easy so it might be an idea to add a meter to it if that is the road you decide to go down.

Also any commercially available kits are acceptable, it's just to show that you are capable of handling a soldering iron.
73's de Den.

I am going to build a SOFTROCK SDR radio I think, shame really if I could get the examiner round to have a look at my micro designs, s/he would pass me anyways I was 7ish when I started building kits But the softrock is something that is usable and fun to build. the radio hardware will cope with all transmissions, and the software deals with the rest be it PPK or Morse or even SSB/USB/LSB, if you have a play with it you could even build a coffee maker interface into it (or a coffee warmer)

Sounds an ok project Martin....Scott was able to bring in a project that he had done before and it was allowed just had to be able to see it working which of course it did no prob's. I am sure if you ask you may be able to bring in something you have already made. Like the coffee warmer idea

Thanks for all the tips The last day of my forthcoming foundation course is being shared by an intermediate practical day, so maybe I can see what they've done. I do fancy the morse practice oscillator, very useful for me, as I haven't been on the key for 2 decades. cheers, Andy

We are thinking of starting morse lessons at our club and we have had a very nice gentleman from Todmorden area offer his services which I think we should take up on as it will come in handy for us that are scared about morse....lol hopefully not for long
