Thought at some stage we could organise a schedule on 2m IRLP, would certainly assist Renae. The Southport Repeater, GB3OA uses as I'm led to believe both EchoIRLP, so is capable of making or receiving calls on either the EchoLink or IRLP system. GB3OA's IRLP and Echolink node numbers are the same, 5302. The repeater can be heard on 145.6125MHz and can only be accessed with a 82.5Hz CTCSS tone.
Perhaps one evening we could give it a go?

I would definetly need help linking to the 2 meter repeater through echo-link. I have only used echo link a few times and those times they were direct person to person. I have heard on a Chicago Repeater people using echo-link but I am totally cluless how they link up to it. I am always willing to give it a try. I am -6 hours UTC your evening is my day time (which it not a problem at all for me) just let me know the time day etc and I will give it a try.

Good Idea Ian. However I am not sure how to link to repeater or nodes via echo-link etc.

Hi Zo
I'm certainly no expert on IRLP, however, in the first instance I believe you have to be able to open the repeater. Ensure correct output frequency is on your display i.e. 145.612.5, next correct Shift '-' and 600 Mhz shift with a CTSS of 82.5 Hz or open with a 1750 Tone Burst. You must have a keypad microphone to insert the relevant NODE number into to open NODES abroad, i.e. to open a NODE in say Renaes back yard into her local repeater, you press in the correct NODE number and press the PTT which will open the repeater up and then call as normal, if Renae was accessing the Southport NODE she would press in 5302. Always remember that when finishing your call you must close down the link in order for others to use it, it should be *something, the something being a number. A full list of worldwide NODES can be found on the internet and an explanation of how to use a repeater when activating NODES. I will find the information and post in this thread.
IRLP does NOT require a PC only Echolink does.......... Hope this is all as clear as mud, more experienced NODE users may be able to oblige in this thread.

I have no clue how IRLP works at all. I don't have the echo-link going through the radio(s) when I set it up I did the computer choice. I rarely us it as is it has been well over a year since I used it last. I will have to look into IRLP to undersatnd it and once you post more maybe I can figuire it out. I wont use it until I know what I am doing

Hi Ian and Renae, Ian you have explained the use of nodes quite well but I can only say that because I do know how to use them. You can also get a keypad external to the mic which you would hold up to the mic whilst keying it and keying in the numbers on the pad which does exactly the same thing as a mic with DTMF keys. I personally wouldn't use one though because it is very tricky holding the pad to the mike whilst trying to key up and press in the relevant numbers. Renae, Once you have accessed the nodes correctly once or twice it becomes easy because once you have set up the CTSS and or tone burst on the relevant frequency then you only have to key in the node numbers you wish to access each time you visit that frequency.

I can never rember how to put tones in our radio. I dont have echo link hooked up through the radio. I just downloaded it and set it up from computer.
