Could've been worse, Zo. Having someone do it free of charge will save a huge amount... labour is the killer in all garage bills. cheers, Andy You are quite right there Andy. There has been some talk of what might be the best road to go down but I think the recon engine is definitely the better option. I think if they start messing about with the present engine that in itself is going to be costly and there is no gaurantee that there isn't going to be more problems and more cost but that is only in my humble opinion 73's, Zo

Hi Zo-actually the belt failure doesn't make a sound..that is the confusing part. All that happens is the engine just stops. At that point it won't start when you crank it because it is way out of line-at which point a mechanic would diagnose. I hate to say, but the real damage occured when somebody attempted the bumpstart. The "crack" heard was upper and lower engine parts colliding. The timing belt is the only internal engine part that isn't metal and it has to be replaced at a certain time/mileage (set by car maker to be done well before suspected failure) usually at 60-90,000 miles. At any rate, I hope the new motor works out fine so you can get cruizing again! 73s

Thanks Frank, I wasn't aware that when the timing belt goes that there would be no sound as I have been told to listen out for anything that might indicate a failure somewhere along the line. The mileage on our car was @48,000 miles so it was definitely getting up to that time for changing the belt. Well I have certainly learned a lesson here....Don't let anyone sit in your car even if it is being towed!!!! Car will be on road again hopefully soon!!!

I know what you mean Frank, Thats why it came as a shock at it being the timing belt. Anyways we have opted to go for the re-con engine and hopefully from hence on there will not be anything major major for a while. Thanks for the help and thoughts and support Everyone and will keep you posted as to when the new engine can be bought. 73's, Zo
