Hi, What do you all think of the 'no smoking in a public place' ban due to come into force in England on July 1st?
I think it is an infringment of personal liberty, it also smacks of hypocrasy, the government are introducing the ban, yet they rely heavily on the tax revenue that tobacco products bring in. Is this just another examle of big brother is watching you? What's your opinions?

I agree,
They are starting to do that more and more here.(Not nationally but each state if they chose can imposed the Public Smoking ban, if the State doesn't have any Laws about it, then Counties can impose them, if Counties (or States) don't impose them Individual Cities can.
Come first of the year in Illinois there will be a Public Smoking Ban in all Public places ( except Hotels and Nursing homes) Bars and Casinos will have the ban as well. A ban (outside) in all Public places.
I am NOT a smoker but I feel a person has the right to smoke if they chose. People"Chose" their jobs, if they "Chose" to work in a place like a bar or casino where there is a lot of smoking, it is their Choice no one is forcing them to work there. There are many Restaurants/Bars etc that have air filtration systems and have smoking areas.
I think banning smoking outside it utterly ridiculous!
It is more of the "Big Brother" type thing that I oppose this. What will be next ? Ban on Junk/snack food? It is bad for overweight people, Ban it. Ban on fried foods? Can clog arteries and cause heart attack. Ban it.
Sure it can be argues that second hand smoke can cause health issues. but it needs to be a LOT of second hand smoke. ( again you chose to work in a smoky environment it is your choice)It has to be breathed into the lungs to cause the damage,

Just another way of the Government to make you stop smoking!!!! I personally think that this country has lost the plot. I was listening to two old timers on 80m the other evening,....one said to the other,..what was the point! why did we bother! the countries gone mad! They was on about when they served there country, for the freedom,of England.I can under stand there feelings on this, and yes the counties gone and lost the plot!!!! I like to go for a few beers and enjoy my self, have a beer and a smoke, well this one will not be in the local pub,I will drink and smoke at home,.....but what will the next chapter be in this idiocy, ban smoking in your own home,..go to the local pub and find out that drinking has been banned from the pub ! a lot of people who i know, have converted there cellars into a bar,so all who they know can go and enjoy a drink and a smoke,in peace.its going underground now don't you think,..will the Government like the none tax of beer done this way,..becouse this will happen.my best mate has done his like a bar, pool table,...slot machine,....Bar,....beer,...and yes you can smoke! no wonder the English person is moving abroad I don't blame them. Sorry for the ramble, but this is where I can talk! Now then dust bin collections,....whats your view....?? I think that this stinks too....not a joke!!! I have heard that if you do not recycle your rubbish,...you will get a £80 fine? is this crap!! Look at how this is,they moved the collections from once a week, this was nearly to over flow,..now they cut this down to collections every two weeks, now every garden looks like a dustbin, because of there cut backs, but they have the cheek to fine any one £80 for not sorting there own rubbish out,..its apoling....we are getting charged for doing there job,..just because they cant be bothered.Makes me scream!!!England where ? I can say a lot more but id better not,.....I may get a visit from MI5....God bless England.

In California you can not smoke in your car if you have a child under the certain age in the vehicle.
here Recycling is voluntary, we have separate trash bins but you don't get fined if you don't recycle.

Hi All, I totally agree with you Wayne, another thing that irritates me is the number of CCTV cameras that are around. You can't go anywhere without being seen on some spy camera, what happened to personal freedom?. I was brought up to believe that we lived in a free democracy, but it doesn't seem like it to me. Is this state of affairs for which i spent my years in the military? I think not:

We don't have that here( yet) we do have cameras at some intersections...but that is for giving tickets to people who go through Red lights.
