Hi Folks, I have noticed recently that the HF bands are staying open late into the night. For example i was talking to an amatuer in Turkey on Sunday at 10:30 pm, anybody else think this is strange? There has been activity on 20mtrs and 17 mtrs even in the early hours of the morning e.g. 5:00 am.

We have been busy with yard work I have hardly been on. I know that sometimes the bands are like that up to the first day of summer (according to my logs they were the last two years). I hope to have more time soon to get on HF soon!

Another first it was apx 10pm local time ( 0300 UTC)on 20 meters loud and clear signal (he was a 10+ signal) from Kuwait (9K2GS)
Dave tried to make the contact but the pileup was huge, with us running only 100 watts, no way could would break the pileup, and compete with the maximum legal limit amplified signals, plus it seemed that the He could hear the south/southwest states better ( Texas,Arizona,Louisiana propagation was not on our side)
I have never heard a Middle East Station ever.

I have little patience Dave will keep trying until he gets the contact, but he was getting tired and threw in the towel. I am going to keep listening later at night though since it seems that later at the night bands are open
