I Have noticed that these two bands are starting to look good again after a long period of not a lot of activity, mostly I have been using 20m some not to bad contacts, and 80mtrs on an evening has been realy good.I have just replaced the g5 with a new g5,this time with flexweave and 450 ohm feeder, and lifted the end legs another 10 ft,so this is usualy the time the bands go on the Q side, you know when you want to check the arail out,I also pict up a 3 element thunderbird junior beam, tooo big for my qth,so this may be up for sale? also how is 6mtrs anyone know,At the moment I dont have a radio that covers this band, but I pickt up a 2 el 6mtr beam also,if im not missing out on the 6mtr band this may be up for grabs too.Well looks like spring is here,..better not speak to soon tho.And I hope every one on the forum is doing ok. m3jzt wayne www.setbb.com/m3jzt/index.php

Hi Wayne, Yes things do seem to be waking up on HF, just lately it's be as dead as a Dodo, i don't usually play on 80mtrs i prefer 17mtrs. As for 6 mtrs it is pretty quiet at the moment but then again it's not usually very busy. I have a G5 i am thinking of putting up, at the moment i use a Cobwebb and a long wire for 40/80. I am looking forward to the Blackpool rally on Sunday, looking for bargains HI.

I have just put up the new g5,seems to be ok,only contact that iv had so for was with a Z36A yesterday to see how it is working,i gave him 5/9 so not to bad.Fine on the 17mtr band,I dont have this band at the mo,used to have it on the old 44o,and it is a good band for the long distant stuff.Miss that one.durring the day when im on the radio im usualy on 20mtrs,had some good contacts on that band over the past few years.Im usualy on 80mtrs on or around the freq of 3.755.00 with a mate of mine his call is M5STC,if your around at around 1600 onwards most evenings, and you hear us call in,depending on band noise and contitions.some evenings we have quite a net on that one ,other times its just me and him hi. Fine on the rally hope you pick up some bargains,... m2jzt Wayne www.setbb.com/m3jzt/index.php

I noticed that 20 and 17 are getting better at Grey line , I haven't checked 80 or 40 meters. I will have to make a point of turning the radio on again during the day see what is out there.

I have had a few contacts on either 80 Mtrs or 20 Mtrs in last few days. It's fair got me excited about HF full stop as I never really got the nerve up to go for it. I had a contact with W3RFK who was in Pensilvania on 20 Mtrs which I was dead chuffed about and one on 80 that I was equally chuffed with was IZ5MRQ Alex who was operating the Italian Coastal Navy Awards Station in Carrara N.Italy

Oh goodness yes it does seem like these contests are every weekend. This latest one was 48 hours and I kept listening around 20 Mtrs and 80 Mtrs and the stations were literally crawling over each other to get those contacts. I was amazed though at 1 am in the morning at the end of the 48 hours it suddenly went deafly silent just the odd station still clinging on to the odd post contest contact hee hee.

I don't mind contests too much... although they vary. You can rack up some nice new countries fairly quickly if you're starting out. And if you really don't like them, you can go off to the warc bands, it's amazing how the warc bands spring to life during a big contest... as they're a safe refuge for the antis cheers, Andy

Yes I must admit that I was fair tempted to press the ptt switch on the mike and call back but I was a little nervous not knowing too much about the contesting side of things. Another amateur said go for it they don't mind where those points come from... think I must have been thinking it was some sort of special contesters club ha ha ha now thats sad
