Rather than type out a bio, click this link to QRZ @ read by bio there! www.qrz.com/callsignHopefully the link works, never actually tried to link to QRZ. Anyway I'm just a janitor at a privately owned home improvement center. I'm here at night 7 days a week by myself and our company has been around since 1873. Selling hardware and lumber is not how we make our money, we build residential, commercial, industrial facilities all over the central US. Everyone have a wonderful evening, I'm currently expecting 16 inches of snow in the next few hours here in the Indianapolis area! '73 NICE forum by the way, it's refreshing to hear from nice people on the few forums I frequent! Harley kc9gld

Hello Harley, the link went to the main search page. But I know who you are from Ladies on the Air here is what it says on QRZ QRZ Web KC9GLD USA Lookups: 5723 Harley R Patterson Detailed info Update this listing Update Policy... Mailing Label Postcard How to add your picture/QSL card Email: Show KC9GLD's email address I was born in Indianapolis in 1959, moved to Danville In. in 1964. I bought my first cb radio, ( 3 channel Radio Shack portable) in 1969 shortly after recieving my liscence. Bought my 1st SW reciever used Hallicrafters SX111 (from a garage sale) in 1970. By the way I don't recall how many newspapers I had to deliver to pay for that reciever! I had my first cb base station,( Hi Gain III with a Starduster antenna right at about 20' ) in 1974. Then thanks to wa9cwr a 4 element Yagi was the next step in 1975. Then came along 1976, thanks again to Cal he loaned me one of his Yeasu 101's without a mic of course, and gave me a Heathkit scanner to put together. Of course it didn't work when I finished it, so Cal bailed me out again! I bought my second SW reciever, a Hallicrafters SX130 about the time I graduated H.S. in 1977. The following year I started studying CW and made it to about 10 WPM. Then my tool cabinet was stolen which put me out of business as a mechanic, so I entered the Air Force in 1980. During my 4 years at Wurtsmith AFB in MI.; we had B-52's and KC135 birds on alert and my AFSC was 46350;(Missile and nuclear warhead swaps, AGM69A short range attack missile and AGM86B air launched cruise missile.) I purchased 3 more SW recievers, Drake R-4A, and a Realistic DX 120, a Realistic DX 300 (which by the way is at the bottom of the Au Sable River just south of the Air Base) and then a Realistic DX 394 which never took a canoe trip, while active duty and I exited the AF in 1984. And I did get called into the Squadron Commander's office concerning the strange looking wire strung from my dormitory room window and the Chow Hall! For the longest time after I exited the service I had trouble sleeping at night. Come to find out, I had grown accustomed to the sounds from the turbines being run through their paces in the Jet Shop all night long. Bought my 6th SW in 1986 as well as my first scanner. In 1990 I bought my second scanner and my 7th SW. 8th SW in 1995; 9th in 1998. Then in 2004 I recieved a Tech. liscence followed by Gen. 13 months later. My first HF contact was ki0sc on an ICOM 718, thanks for the help on that milestone Tom, (kb9uwr)! Then at the 2005 Columbus In. Hamfest I passed the Extra test. Thanks again to all with the help in my education to make this the best hobby I've ever had!! Thanks again Cal AB9D (wa9cwr); N9VXQ; N9CQ; N9GT; KB9AG; WD9GYK; KB9UWR; W9RO; KB9OGJ; KB9YUF; N9ZIV; N9XLD; KA9YHU, and all the other numerous amateurs with all the help! Hello Harley, Thank you for providing the link to QRZ for your Bio. Its great to meet you here and thank you so much for your kind words about this forum. I have always thought it is what the members make of a site that makes it a great one or not. We are still in the early days really, been open for just about 3 or 4 months so not doing so bad. Thanks to Renae for posting your bio. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a Janitor. I don't think its what job a person does that makes them great. It's whats in their hearts and minds etc. Some of the most interesting people I have met have had nothing much in life with regards to employment or money but yet they have inspired me so much. You sound to have had a very interesting life in the Air Force and am sure you could tell one or two interesting tales of things that have happened to you there. Enjoy the forum and once again welcome 2E0ZLD ~ Zo
