I'm sure like myself, many members would love to hear about others experience of this popular mode. Areas of interest would be about equipment used, band conditions,l ocation of receiving station and RST reports gained/sent etc.
So lets hear from all experienced or otherwise operators of this and, your 2m SSB contact experiences, perhaps into northern europe, south of England,s outhern Ireland or indeed up into bonny Scotland, perhaps worked on the Lift over the Christmas period..... let the tales roar!

Just to start the thread off.......
My best success to date on this mode was with the band flat as a pancake, when I worked into Devon to Paul G4RRA in the town of Spreyton. The QSO took place on 27 February 2005 at 1449 hours. I was using on this occassion the trusty FT-290Mk1 on 2m SSB using only 2.5 watts in conjuction with the SOTA 2m 3 element beam on a 4m fishing pole at the back of the house tied to the shed and received an RST 52 from Paul and I gave him RST 55.
Saying that Paul was doing all the work using 2 X 10 element yagis an IC275H and 2 x 4 CX800 400 watts from a 65 ft tower.
Happy days though and was nice to make the contact.

Excellent Contact Ian ;D ;D ;D I like your idea's, Thanks for posting them for us. I have had a few 2mtr SSB contacts on my Yaesu FT817...mainly S.O.T.A. Chasing...at the time my set up was on the Kitchen Table and I would keep the power to 5Watts or lower....I will have to go and check out my log book to see which was the furthest contact....The SOTA Beams are an excellent bit of amateur equipment and you can end up with some rather unexpected contacts.... Very Interesting Topic....Keep them coming Ian ;D M3LHI ~ Zo
