I'm sure we all have tales to tell of that exotic or rare QSO so thought that I would make mention to one of my own to get the ball rolling. Was really pleased to work my first air mobile station NQ41/AM on 14 MHz using the Kenwood TS-520SE and 50w into the Cobwebb antenna on the 03 July 2005. Rick the pilot gave me a RST 59 and I gave him a RST 52. Rick from Cabin Creek Trail,Griffin in Georgia,USA was flying a Gulfstream G-V, 19 passenger lear type jet cruising at approximately 31,000 feet, at .885 mach inbound for Spain and the QSO occured while he was piloting the aircraft over the Atlantic Ocean.
Was my first /AM QSO and was well pleased with this contact and receipt of the QSL card.
Would like to hear from other group members regarding their interesting or exotic QSO's,many members would enjoy reading such encounters.

Wow Ian...Brilliant QSO ;D I have never heard of amateur's making contacts with air craft...I have heard the space station going over but definately not contacts with airplanes...Good One! The one that got my adrennaline running was around July this year...I was flicking through 6mtrs, again on the FT-817 and heard a quite strong voice...I listened and discovered it was a station in Switzerland...I gave him a shout and couldn't believe my luck when he came back to me...I was so nervous..lol...but excited at the same time..I was using the tri-bander antenna and it was my first ever contact on 6mtrs...On the same day I had a contact on the isle of wight and another contact on St Kilda...Not so exotic but certainly great contacts for me... ;D M3LHI ~ Zo

Zo
Yes that one suprised me and I was delighted to make that contact. So far I have managed to work west into America, Canada,Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba and the Virgin Islands. East into the islands south of Thailand, Sri Lanka. South into North Africa and North up into Iceland and Spitbargen. Worked most of Europe and the Middle East. Heard VK's at RST 52 but as yet never worked them. Hopefully as we now are starting to climb out of the bottom of the sun cylcle, ZL's, VK's will be future contacts. Every contact though Zo is a good one.

I agree Ian....Every one of my contacts is a good one! Can't wait until we get further out of the bottom of the sun cycle and the conditions become better on all bands! You have done really well with your station Ian and you have worked many places...something to be totally proud of

Hi Zo
346.1 Very pleased to work Francisco PT7CB on the morning of the 16th December on 20m (14.247) at 0926 hrs. Francisco lives in Fortalenza, on the northeast coast of Brazil. Although I have worked into this area previously, Venezuela, this was my first contact into Brazil, not exactly the Brazilian rain forest, but it will do for me. Received an RST 59 from Francisco and gave him an RST 56 with excellent audio. I was using the KW TENTEC with 50w output into of course the Cobwebb. Nice to break through the pile-up, my first for some time.

Interesting due to the current conflict in this country and that residents are allowed to transmit at this time with internal security as it is. Worked this station YI1EM on the 6th April 05 with an RST 59 received.Operator was a Esam Al-Khanchi. Wonder what others think of this situation? In respect of operation from Iraq.

It's a very interesting situation in respect of operating radio from Iraq. I would expect that internal security is very strong at the moment but it is still good to make contact with Amateur's from all over the world regardless where they are. I hope more people join the forum then we can get other's thoughts on these kinds of situations.

Hi Renae Well first of all welcome to the forum, like me a new member. When I made the contact on 20m with NQ41/AM I was very suprised and very pleased to enter his callisgn in my log book. On monitoring Buckmater DX spots NQ41/AM shows up on the cluster at regular intervals, so other members in the future might also get the opportunity to work him. Working ships is not to common for me however, managed to work a few /MM to include ON4BRN a submarine parked up next to a lightvessel Westhinder in Zeebruges harbour with the Belgian navy and one or two others to include: DL0MCM is the amateur radio club station aboard the former 10.000-ton vessel m/v „Dresden“ / DAVK belonging to the „Frieden“-category. Of course they are there to be worked, right band, right time........
