Hope members can assist in this request.
In 2007 I will be operating abroad for the first time as ZB2/2E0EDX/P (what a mouthfull) to the south of the Rock on Gibraltar. My XYL hopefully will accompany me while operating. She thinks she will be lying down getting a tan.........Noooooooooo! I want her to log for me.. Hi!
Therefore, in the coming weeks I intend getting out and playing portable/mobile radio to both test the equipment and get the XYL used to logging for me. I intend using the newly bought FT-857. The intention is to work 20m, 2m fm/SSB and 70 cms with 6m & 10 m fm. I will be using a half size G5RV and 2m 8 el portable Maspro beam and the 2m 3 el SOTA beam on both horizontal and vertical polarization and a tri band 2m/6m/70 cms antenna on the magmount. The new 4/6/10 m army antenna recently purchased will also be employed. I will be setting up both the 4m fishing poles and a 21 foot mast by the side of the vehicle and operating from the rear of Landrover Discovery.
I obviously wish to operate from a point of elevation and although I'm aware of the usual spots to include both Delph Quarry and Jubilee Towers in the Trough of Bowland, I would wish to try somewhere different, rather than the same old places.
The question I would wish to ask from more experienced portable/mobile members is this, can you recommend other places of elevation in Lancashire or even just into the Yorkshire border area? The locations must be at height, accessed by road with good parking areas. If possible in an area where I won't annoy either the local inhabitants or visitors to the area. Angelesark has been mentioned?
The location but must be in Lancashire/Yorkshire border areas:- nearest town, road number and 6-8 figure grid reference and also local previous knowledge of working radio from the location would be appreciated.
All comments/info greatly received.........
