Right I have some good books on antennas and long wires but I wondered this. I have limited real estate to put a long wire up, no access to tree's telegraph poles etc, and have read that people have put them up round the edge of gardens with no problems. It got me wondering as can I create a long wire square? starting off on my mast then returning lower down the mast? or would I have to be very careful of EMC?

Hi Martin, I think you would be ok with that config, as long as you had a good earth return. Most people are on satellite tv and witrh freqs in the 1-2Ghz you shouldn't affect them. Have you considered the possibility of a Cobwebb antenna? they are only 8.5 feet square and will give you 20mtrs -6mtrs. Also Sandpiper antennas will build a vertical to your specs at a reasonable price www.sandpiper.entadsl.com/ www.g3tpw.co.uk/ 73's de Den.

I'd looked at cobwebs but the flaw I can see with them is that most only go down to 20m, sandpiper is an option, when I have cash @_@
