I am thinking about building a mobile tower into a trailer for field days, RAYNet usage etc based around a 51/2' trailer so that it will be able to store all the extra lengths, as I cannot afford a full pneumatic mast What I've thought of doing is starting with a 20' Scaffold pole (2") and putting into the middle a 13/4" 10' mast, using a pair of wing bolts to support the extension which gives a decent 30' mast now I was thinking if I use an alloy 13/4' internal, I am not sure if the structure would support an extra 10' alloy extender, but maybe I could use a 11/2" 10' internal to take the whole thing to 40' I intend on putting a top section together that includes a rotator and pulleys for a HF G5RV and dipoles or possibly a portable Double Bass antenna and perhaps a weather station to warn about wind speed etc
I also intend on using a set of stabilizing feet (front and back) plus guys on the top of the 20' section, and each of the extenders any thoughts on things I need to take into account. The 20' pole will be on a 6' extender like some of the expensive masts and have a 60' tip on it so the bar goes above the car in transport. (and has locking devices)
Any thoughts or advice as I plan on building this for pretty much free from freecycle groups
