Hi all-as you know, I have been SW DX'ing with a 1976 Realistic Patrolman and a 1959 Zenith Transoceanic all these years. One day a couple weeks ago it dawned on me-I NEED TO UPDATE!! So I did. Spent time on research and, with an $800.00 budget in mind, I settled on a FANTASTIC HF receiver-the ICOM IC-R75. WOW I am truly sheltered here as I had NO idea how far these radios have come. I know for sure, that you, my friends, probably have receivers in your ham shacks that rival this one-but I have to say that this radio is pure JOY!! All the filters and processors really pull stuff out of the noise floor like nothing I have heard before. Martin, I know you've probably been there/done that on this unit-but I am really impressed. I got it at Ham Radio Outlet here in Oakland, Ca. for $639.00plus. Money well spent I say!!!! I am still learning how to engage the various filters and when as well as other attributes, but I already heard "Voice of Turkey", a 'pirate' station doing his lil tyrade about Los Angeles, and have mastered tuning your peers on SSB! Maybe I'll get lucky and catch one of you on this thing. 73s

;D Glad you like your receiver. I am sure you will like it. We have an Icom IC -R70 Dave got it new back in the early 80s I think it was 1980 ,1981 ? ? ? I don't recall it was a long time ago, it was expensive back then ( I think at the time he paid about $800-$900 in the early 80's that was very expensive I remember being shocked at the price) That is a nice receiver we have listened to it for many many years. We just picked up a Realistic DX-160 last weekend at a hamfest, Dave had always wanted one when he was a kid and the price was right ( $60) so we got it.

Hi Renae!! Yeah the guy at HRO said that your receiver was mine's daddy, and that ICOM built these things for military use but ours are detuned if you will...kinda like the Hummer military vs. civilian. Yours is very cool! I saw it on the net. I also looked up that DX 160-what a neat piece of radio Americana that one is!! Do you guys still use your receivers-or have they been upstaged by the ones in your tranceivers? 73s

when you go to reply look under the white "Message box" where it says: Disable Smilies: If this box is checked, smiley emoticons will be disabled in your message. if the box is checked, uncheck it otherwise no clue why the smilies don't show up.

Hi For shortwave listening i use an old receiver a Yaesu FRG7 it is almost 30 yrs old but still works fine. To be honest, i have yet to find another that matches it for audio quality. It cost me £50 ($47) in a used condition. So i think it was a bargain buy . 73's de Den.
