I took my family up to Lancaster to visit my inlaws today, and approaching Lancaster I heard a SOTA call from North Wales (127.1 miles away), Unfortunately I was driving up a steep twisty road so couldn't copy the call , and the weird thing about it was I know the operator and he was running at 4w and I was getting him on a 5/9 +60 and more. Then the other side of Lancaster I was picking up the Scots borders! Again banging signal I think we're missing out here before this the furthest I'd managed to get on 2m was 83.36 miles and that again was on 4w and was a 5/3. Just thought I'd share that useless piece of information with you all.

its cracking if someone else had said about it I'd have been sceptical, but we'd got 6m booming through from Ireland as well, but I aint so sure as what to expect on 6m as I am not an avid user

Cool stuff man! Always a kik when fresh discovery happens. I need to get a shot at some good skip here-been a while since gaining new 'frontiers' on radiocomm. Why do you think it went that way Martin?

I suspect its to do with the fact that the location I was driving through at the time I could see right out into North wales (llandudno area) as well as into the lakes, ireland is just over the horizon or maybe even just on it, as is the Isle of man. Could be as simple as that

Man too bad you couldn't score a piece of land up there...if for nothing else but to set up a MAD shack/vacation hideout:)

hehe I think the land owner would be a bit miffed, but I plan on taking a caravan up there over the summer to a carpark and doing a bit the land owner for reference is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth So making an enemy of her by nicking land would be a bad idea I might have to find someone with a 3.5 l Tug to get the caravan up there though I don't think my 2l 4x4 would cut it
