I don't really know anything about DSTAR Martin so I couldn't really advise you either way. However I wonder if you could tell us a bit about it and give me some enlightenment as to what it is all about..... a sad 2E0 lacking in some knowledge....lol

Simply put D-Star is ICOM and Kenwoods own version of Echolink Icom says the following about DSTAR "D-STAR is a new ham radio system which offers digital voice and data communication. It connects repeater sites over microwave links and the Internet and forms a wide area ham radio network. The DSTAR system provides a new capability and functionality to the ham radio world and increases the efficiency of emergency communications." for more have a look at www.icomamerica.com/en/products/amateur/dstar/id1/default.aspxit also acts as a wireless gateway for www, email and other features

Very interesting. Bet it would be quiet at first until people actually started using it however if they crossed with echolink then perhaps it might not be. Still interesting though.

I am thinking of importing a USB dongle that allows access, to give it a try, I've also just heard that the lancaster repeater may be up for an upgrade also. I was looking at a DSTAR handy now my handy has died but they are still way to pricey in the UK why is it we have to pay what the Americans pay in Dollars in Sterling? there again got to be cheaper than Oz Methinks
