It was February '06....pretty darn cold...and I couldn't believe it when Den suggested we went out and did our first activation I agree'd thinking to myself 'What on earth are you trying to drag me into M3LHF!!!!' I agree'd and Den asked our youngest daughter Stacey if she would like to come along for the ride...more like climb! I was surprised when she agree'd to come along too...'Are we all nutter's or what?' We got our stuff together, radio's, antenna's, gloves, hats...and boots...Put the dog in the car and off we went. We were heading for Boulsworth Hill ~ Lad Law. Summit Ref SP/G-008 2pts It was a wet day. That horrible fine rain that seems to get you wetter than you thought possible but that didn't put us off. We parked up the car not far from the recreation centre..just round the bend infact...and after getting the stuff we needed from the car off we set along the path wich was a gentle slope from the start. Not having done this sort of thing before our outdoor skills were not so sharp as they should have been We found a gate that had two paths leading from it and we were so undecided as to whether this was the right path or not.. We convinced ourselves that it was and off we went along it. After a while we started to wonder was we actually on the right path. Onwards and upwards we went...over moor and bog's...uh! Over more moor and bog's and eventually I said to Den 'This can't be the right path!' Den tended to agree. We both fell a couple of times...luckilly neither of us got hurt..just our pride's...hee hee. We eventually came to the conclusion that we were lost. We decided to go back. It was too late now to get to the summit even if we found the right path. So we turned around and headed for the car. We had been out wondering on the moor's for around 4 hours in total. We were definately tired. I was so glad to see the car in the distance. I was feeling unfit and was hoping to forget it in the future... ;D ;D ;D When I got back to the car my legs were shaking. I haven't a clue how I managed to drive back home but I managed it. We were sad but also relieved to get home in one piece. Den studied and studied the OS map to see if he could see where we had gone wrong and he found it. I kinda quietly hoped we weren't going to do that again...but two days later guess what Den asked me??? Yep you guessed it..'Fancy doing that activation Zo?' Arrrrrrgh! 'Go on then!' Same Location....Lad Law...Happilly this time we got it right...However it was a winter wonderland. The Scenery so different to two days ago! White with heavy frost. I wished I had taken the camera! The dog was amazing. Once at the bottom of the path leading up to the summit he seemed to know exactly which way we were heading and pulled me up all the way...Bless him. ;D. We got to the top around 15.10 p.m. It didn't take us long to set the Radio and Antenna up. We were sharing the equipment. Given that it was getting quite late in the day and it was amazingly cold we were just aiming for 5 or 6 contact's each..
