I've used Proboards before, and know pretty much what you can do with them, what would make (I think) the boards more a) readable b) manageable is breaking the forums into blocks
ie
- General Chit chat and intros - Course stuff - Foundation - Intermediate - Advanced - Electronics - Frequency boards - HF - VHF / UHF - Comps - CASHOTA - IOTA - SOTA - Wanted & For sale. - Links
This would make the site a little easier to read and follow, please don't feel this as a dig, Its just my Onion (opinion)

Yep, this is the idea i was getting at in my earlier suggestions post...and the layout suggested above is a good one.
It doesn't pay to have too many forums at the outset (subforums are handy at times)... if you can merge some of forums into a more encompassing title, then it gives the impression of a busier/more active community to visitors and encourages them to join. Prime example would be the classified forums, sale and wants can be in one forum, and this would then look more active than 2 forums as the threads/posts would combined into one.
It's understandable to want all the license grades seperate, but an all encompassing 'tuition' forum may be best for the time being or subforums of each in one tuition main forum.
Cheers, Andy

Martin you have private message Janine you also have private message Ok I think it is definitely time to have a bit of a revamp so please let me know what you both think. I have disabled the staff aprroval thingy so now visitors can just register and activate their own accounts. Hopefully we will have some great new members to help make the site more active and a place to want to visit, also hopefully we can all add to the learning side of the forum to help any newcomers that may need a bit of a hand on the way to acquiring their licences. 73's, Zo

It now looks like home to me You can now take advantage of the revamp... send out a 'newletter' to all the members, mentioning the new look forums. This will get people back and hopefully more activity. Maybe do a bit of tweeking to the colour scheme, so it's more of a visible change to anyone popping back. At the moment, it looks a bit too much like a default colour scheme (although for all i know it may not be)... give the site a bit of its own personality. cheers, Andy

It is a default colour scheme Andy You are quite correct. I have been wanting to deal with the colour scheme for some time but because I am not sure what bits alter which bits not sure what to do... I can make my own backgrounds, make animated little pic's from other images and even make a rolling banner but it is just where to put what. For example if I want to use one of my own backgrounds where would I put it on the web so that I can put it in the board etc. Then the problem is to decide what kind of backgrounds or colour scheme's. Seems to me I can do most anything except the business .... LOL Ok while I am here, I am not sure that I am totally happy with the General Board Category and contents. There are some things in there that I don't know what to do with for the best i.e. Ladie's Area, SWL's Area and Interesting Radio Articles~ World Wide. Should I leave them where they are or do you think I should put them somewhere else? This question can be answered by anyone as of course any advice would be good input from all our members. I don't want to delete any of them at the moment incase any would be useful to folks so I think this is gonna be a let the members decide decision 73's, Zo

I think we'll be getting a bit more input from others later, and it's always good to have other views. I would definitely avoid having any background to the site with any images or patterns in it... it doesn't work, looks cheesy. I was just thinking of slightly different base colours to the layout.
It may be worth just sitting back and looking at the main page for a while, and evaluate what is there. I still think there are too many forums, it's an easy trap to fall into... the more forums, the more inactive a site looks. As I said before, if you can merge one or more forums into one with a more encompassing title, then its for the best. The other alternative with new empty looking forums is to move existing threads on the subject into it.
cheers, Andy

Thanks Andy, I understand what you mean about the boards so will have a think about it. I am going off now to do something else and hope later we get some more input from our other members. I am going to think about what can be merged into a board and perhaps new titles to encompass that thought. Also will study how to change the title colours etc and then have a trial run or two.... Hee hee. Thanks again for your input it has been most appreciated.

Bingo!! A newsletter, you don't hang around, Zo We did a big one yesterday, so be prepared for the 'i've forgotten my password/username'... or 'how dare you, i'm sure i didn't subscribe to your newsletter' Then again, every time we send them out to one of our other sites, the most common one is unfortunately 'sorry but Bert has passed away'

Thanks Janine and Renae I am glad you both approve of the tidy up. I am going to see about changing the colour scheme a little but need to read up on it all first.
