The Philips FM1000 series where originally designed for TETRA systems, and as such can be seen in many UK police cars There are two standard setups one tuned arround 70cm and the other tuned around the 2m wavelength although there are firmware updates to get the rigs onto 4m,6m and 10m.
The one I have will tune up all the way to the top of 70cm band through to 4m and has the modification done for four meters by PA4DEN.
I have the rig running with a 4m horizontal halo at a height of about 25 feet. the rig its self is quite awkward to get used to and the manual isn't very helpful however there is a rather good yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FM1000series/
Operation Whilst many other radio's are built specifically for 4m or modified to access some 4m channels this rig is straight forward to use once you have got passed the learning curve, I would definitely advise the investment. Developed for the UK police and similar it has to be IDIOT proof once installed, and I would certainly say that once configured it is exactly as it should be. A doddle. For Raynet this is a serious peace of Radio Kit, that I recommend everyone interested in 4m should have a play with. Its also a lot cheaper than the 4m sets from Alinco and Icom.
-The sound quality is very good* -The Transmitted vox is also very good* -tuning once you have got used to the rig is fairly easy. -adjustable sql and transmit power** -Morse callsign generator and send facility -Tone Burst -DTFM -programmable memories -repeater shift
* Apart from lots of background noise on 4m which is because of many non screened electrical devices in the uk ** from 1w to 32w (not the 25w quoted in the manual)
Unlike many bits of kit there are readily available cheap spares like dtfm mikes remote head cables, and mounting kits.

Actually the Halo is fantastic, I prefer halo's. I've had places on the halo that I can't get on the 2m co-linear that is 3 feet higher up the mast
